Happy New Year!

Hey you all. Just wanted to say happy new year. Didn't do much for this new year. Just stayed up and talked. But then again, I never really partied in the U.S. either. Still trying to find out what my resolution is. Maybe do great in school or keep my room clean. Or take more care of Ahmed. I'll sleep on it. Nyways, just have a great new year.

A whiff of back home

Today I made mashed patatoes. They were delicious. It's amazing how a mixture of steamy patatoes, creamy butter, milk, and a dash of salt has the ability to make a girl cry from happiness. Yep, I was so reminded of the joys of eating in America that I started bawling. Haahaa, no, I'm not that pathetic, I just got teary-eyed. However, it was pure bliss, pure bliss.

Chapals

The other day Naiema and I decided to walk to the neighborhood store to buy some snacks for our food-craving stomachs. Naiema, being the "oh-so-confident" person that she trys to be, just had to walk their in bathroom slippers(chapals). "Cuz she doesn't care what anyone thinks."
We are peacfully walking when these punjabi school kids start making fun of her shoes and started following us. "Jootay tho dayko,"("just look at the shoes") one of them said to her friends. I thought this was funny so I start laughing really hard which made Naiema laugh, and then everyone started to stare at us. It must have looked funny, two girls laughing really hard, and one of them in bathroom slippers. But hey, atleast I got two cases of Mentos.

Slang

Well, well, what to report to you hungry masses hungering for an update from your fobby Lahori freinds? Oooh, oooh! I got an idea! I will translate American lingo that's hip with American youth into Urdu/Punjabi/Seraiki!

Dude: Yaar
What's up: Hal day, hal suna
Shut up: Chup kar ba
Hey!: Wanay!, Oye!
Cool: Fit
FOBby/Slutty: Cheap
Shit: Shiieett
Oh my God!: Hiy madday Allah!

That's all my brain can think of... ladies and gentlemen, you have just discovered my deepest, darkest secret: I really am not very knowledgeable in English-Urdu slang. Sorry to dissapoint y'all...

I'm Baaaack

It's been three weeks in Dera, and already I am misssing it. I am sooo bored in Lahore. I had so much fun over there. It was my cousins wedding and there was also my mamoo(mom's brother) wedding. I also had a lot of fun on Eid also. But I missed the one in America alot. We didn't get to go to Eid prayer or anything, and my eidi was only like $4 when converted from rupees to dollars. I also missed Thanksgiving. I am really ticked off cuz intstead of turkey, mashed potatos, stuffing, green beans, spanish rice, bread rolls, pumpkin and apple pie, I was eating salan and roti. grrr. I hope you all had a good eid and thanksgiving. Miss you all tons
