Wow, long time no see...
So Daniah reintroduced me to this blog. Time had certainly passed since my last post. How long has it been? Oh, only about... 3 YEARS! A lot has happened since then. Let me fill you in.
Naiema: Going to UC Berkeley. Majoring in Economics. Graduating this summer inshaAllah.
Oh, and something else: I got married! That's right, married. Not too long after I stopped posting, actually. I saw the guy for the first time around March 2006 at a masjid program. He was leading a workshop and I was thoroughly impressed with his confidence, verbal skills, and (feeling a little sheepish here) good looks. Didn't think much of it, but waved it aside as a small crush. A few months later I met him again at a meeting. He said he went to Stanford. Bingo! Baba works on Stanford campus. Maybe he could find out about him. In September, I told Baba that "this guy seems cool, could you get to know him?" Baba did some digging and approved. The guy and I worked on a Homeless Gift Drive; he liked me, I liked him. We started talking. One thing lead to the next and we got hitched December 2006. Alhamdulillah it's been 2 1/2 years and we still like each other, so that's a good thing.
Alina: She got married too! And get this: to a guy in Pakistan. Not just Pakistan. Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan. And didn't she say she was scared of men from Dera in one of the blog posts? Needless to say he's a nice guy. My cousin, Arif, got them talking. They spoke over the phone. Liked each other. And decided to get married. Yippee! She went back this past spring of 2009, and they were hitched. One problem though, he's there and poor Alina is back here. So now, she wants to go to Pakistan (until hubby's done with school). Can you believe it? Alina. Back to Pakistan. Not just Pakistan. Lahore, Pakistan. Can you say "ironic?" But we're super happy for her anyways since he's a really great guy who makes her happy and respects her mashaAllah. She's at Berkeley too. Majoring in Political Economy of Industrial Societies. Graduating this May inshaAllah. And then a job this summer. Or Pakistan, if we can't talk her out of it...
Daniah: One word - Ok two words: Busy Bee. Hasn't gotten married, don't worry. She started De Anza last fall. Working as a part-time English tutor. Part of 10-or-something different clubs. Has a car now, and picked up two car accidents, and one speeding ticket along the way. Protesting whatever and wherever she can. And she's going to India this summer to help out orphans, inshaAllah. Guess my mom's prayers for her illiterate, lazy daughter finally got answered.
Omar: 11 years old. Smart as a whip. Stubborn as Mommy. His latest obsessions are computer software programming, graphic designing, Lego-robotics, and making killer pancakes from scratch. And he rides a unicycle. So, I'm not sure how to sum him up, but there you go.
Rahma: 9 years old. Sweet as a muffin. Talkative as a bird. What keeps her distracted from doing her schoolwork is daydreaming about tigers, kittens, Zaynah - her best friend, and most things girly. She dislikes long sleeves.
Ahmad: 5 years old. He wants to be a superhero when he grows up. Ask him to explain how Spiderman became Spiderman, what makes Superman so special, and who Batman's arch nemeses are, he'll keep you sitting for hours. He follows Rahma around the house and subconsciously considers her his best friend, unfortunately without her consent.
So that's pretty much it. Guess I'll be adding some more to this blog if I feel like it. :)
